Clorox Oxi Magic Chlorine Free Multi-Purpose Stain Remover

There is nothing worse than paying a high price for an item of clothing, and then ruining it by getting a stain on it. When we had two families over for Thanksgiving dinner, I was sad to see that my expensive table cloth had absorbed several stains during our meal. One was red wine, the other was a sparkling grape juice. I thought that my beloved tablecloth was ruined, and I was kicking myself for not putting a plastic liner over the top before dinner.

I only had one stain remover in my laundry room, and it was almost empty. When I went to the store to purchase a stain remover good for wine, I certainly had many products to choose from. I have recently tried a Oxi Magic carpet cleaner and was very pleased with it’s performance, so I was swayed toward Clorox Oxi Magic Chlorine Free Multi-Purpose Stain Remover.

The ingredients in this stain remover are pretty straight forward: Hydrogen peroxide, isopropyl alcohol, surfactants and fragrance. I initially thought that this was made specifically for clothing stains, since it was sold with the laundry items. However, it can also be used on carpeting and hard surfaces such as toilets, tubs, sinks, countertops, and vinyl flooring. It claims to work on the following stains: coffee, dirt, food, grass, ink, juices, pet stains, wine, tomato sauces and tea.

The product comes in a 22 ounce plastic bottle with a trigger sprayer. It’s easy to hold, and the blue cap simply flips up to allow you to spray it, and snaps shut to secure it and prevent leaks when in storage. The spray comes out in a fine mist, and it’s easy to direct it to one particular area. There is only a mild odor, which is not offensive, and washes out completely.

As for how well this product works, it can take some diligence, but it does work. The directions say to blot out any excess liquid before treating. The directions say to spray product directly on stain and rub in gently. Let stand 3 to 5 minutes. Wash immediately with detergent in the warm water. After one washing, the red wine was almost gone, but there was still some grape juice stain remaining. Not wanting to put my tablecloth in the dryer and risk “setting the stain”, I repeated the steps and sprayed them again with the Clorox Oxi Magic and washed as normal. After the second application, both stains were indeed gone. Whew! I was so relieved. This product is great to have on hand for those unexpected accidents!

If you use this on hard surfaces, the manufacturers instructions say to rinse with water and let dry. If using it to spot clean carpet stains, you do the same: soak up any excess stain, spray with Oxi Magic and let it remain on stain for a few minutes. Blot the area with an absorbent cloth and vacuum when it dries.

Clorox is a brand that I trust, and I will gladly pay the cost of $3.50 for a good stain remover. Most stain removers that I buy for my laundry are made only for laundry. I like the fact that this product is so versatile, and is indeed a multi-purpose stain remover. It is certainly a good stain remover to have in the cleaning cupboard!
