Three Types of Swimming Pool Heaters
Solar
One of the first types of swimming pool heaters is the solar design. A solar device has to be attached to your rooftop in order to power the heater. These swimming pool heaters are usually designed to work while there is sunlight outside, typically between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. They don’t cost anything to operate because they work on energy provided by the sun. They also require little maintenance.
Solar swimming pool heaters can effectively warm the pool when the daytime temperature is above 60 degrees Fahrenheit. However, when there are days that have lower temperatures than that, the heater won’t likely warm the pool effectively. Also, these swimming pool heaters are the most expensive type of system to install.
Heat Pump
There are also swimming pool heaters that use a heat pump. These heaters require electricity in order to operate. They extract warm air from the air and then use it to heat the water. These swimming pool heaters are designed to work when the outside temperature is above 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
These swimming pool heaters are very efficient, so they don’t cost a lot to operate. However, they have many electrical and moving parts. Therefore, these swimming pool heaters will usually require an annual check by an air conditioning technician.
Gas
One of the final types of heaters is the gas design. These swimming pool heaters are designed to work with either propane or natural gas. They can heat up the water very quickly. However, these swimming pool heaters are very inefficient, so they should only be used to heat the pool for short periods of time. Gas swimming pool heaters will also require more maintenance and cost more money to have repairs done.
These are the different types of swimming pool heaters. Solar heaters require little maintenance and cost nothing to operate because they use the sun’s energy to heat your pool. Swimming pool heaters that use an electric heat pump are very efficient, but will require more frequent maintenance checks. Gas designs should only be used to heat the pool for short periods because they are very inefficient.
