Removing Cake from a Tube Pan

Many assume that once a cake is in the oven, the hard part is over, and all that remains to be done is watch it bake, and eat it once you’ve taken it out and allowed it to cool down. However, while cooking show hosts might be able to flip a pan over and turn out a perfect cake every time, it’s a different story in real life.

When it comes to making bundt cakes, angel food cakes, pound cakes, or any other cake that need to be baked in a tube pan, releasing the cake from the pan can be a particularly difficult process. Often, half the cake makes it out, while the bottom layer (which in fact becomes the top once it is removed from the pan) remains stuck, resulting in a baking disaster of the first degree.

Things Required:

– Parchment paper
– Scissors
– Pencil
– Crisco, or any brand of vegetable oil
– Flour
– Wire cooling rack
– Pot holders
– Cake plate

Instructions

  • 1

Place the tube pan on top of your parchment paper, and trace out its bottom with your pencil. Then, proceed to cut the traced shape out with the scissors.

  • 2

Take the cut-out, and place it in the bottom of your tube pan, taking care to fit it in snugly.

  • 3

Spray the pan with Crisco, or any other vegetable oil, or employ your preferred method to grease the pan. Once this is done, proceed to flour the tube pan. This will prevent the cake from sticking to the pan, and aid its easy removal once it is baked.

  • 4

Pour the cake batter in to the pan, and slide it in to the oven to bake.

  • 5

Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven, and place it on a wire rack. Allow it to cool for around ten minutes, but no longer, as the cake will then start to stick to the pan.

  • 6

Next, place your cake plate (generally the plate on which you wish to serve the cake) on top of the tube pan, with the serving side down.

  • 7

With one hand, hold your cake plate steady using pot holders, and with the other, flip the tube pan upside down, to ease the cake out on to the serving plate.

  • 8

Then, allow the cake to cool down completely, and gradually remove the parchment paper. Your cake is now ready to serve.
