Spring Craft Ideas: Embossed Dragonfly Vase
For this project, you will need:
– Six inch rectangle vase (found online here at Save-On-Crafts)
– ‘Ma Dragonfly’ Rubber Stamp (found in stores or online at Amazon.com)
– Cardstock in blue, dark blue, green, or other similar shade
– Watermark ink
– Copper colored embossing powder
– Heat embossing tool
– Yes Glue (or any other glue that will dry clear)
– Acrylic finishing spray
– Delta PermEnamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner
– Delta PermEnamel Iridescent Glass Paint in Green Blue
– Sponge brush
– Scissors
– Popsicle stick
– Soap and water
– Paper Towels
– Newspaper
Begin this project by washing the rectangle vase with soap and water. Dry well with paper towels. As always, spread newspaper well over your workspace to prevent any drips or stains.
With the sponge brush, coat the entire vase with Delta PermEnamel Air Dry Surface Conditioner. Let dry for at least an hour. Apply a thick coat of Delta PermEnamel Iridescent Glass Paint in Green Blue. Allow this to dry for at least an hour. If you wish for a darker color, continue to add coats of glass paint and dry between until you have reached your desired shade.
Press the ‘Ma Dragonfly’ rubber stamp directly onto the pad of watermark ink. Immediately sprinkle the wet ink with copper colored embossing powder. Shake off any excess by tapping the cardstock against your workspace. Heat set with the heat embossing tool. Set aside for five to ten minutes to ensure drying.
Cut the cardstock with scissors to the desired size you wish to adhere the dragonfly medallion to. With the sponge brush, apply a liberal amount of glue to the back of the cardstock. Apply a second coat of glue to the spot on one side of the vase you wish to adhere the dragonfly to. Press the cardstock firmly to the glass vase. Smooth with the popsicle stick or your fingers to discourage any bubbles.
Allow the glue to dry for an hour or more. Spray the medallion with seven or eight coats of acrylic finishing spray. While this vase is gorgeous when finished, it is hand wash only.
TIP: Do not feel limited to the color choices shown here! Use gold embossing powder with a rich red and gold glass paint for a regal look. Or, consider using a amethyst colored glass paint with a silver embossing powder. Be creative!
