Wall Mounting Made Easy

Getting started is easier than you think. The first thing that you do is go to a best buy or wherever and buy your television. The television should be either a Plasma or LCD flat screen. Plasma’s will give you better, richer picture quality and is great for areas where there isn’t a lot of light. LCD screens are used in bright rooms where the television can actually deflect any light and reduce the glare on the screen. Your sales associate should advice you on a suitable wall mount based upon your needs.

The Wall Mounts

There are two basic wall mounts and two basic wall mount sizes. Let us begin with the wall mounts abilities and advantages.

Flat tilting wall mount:

This mount allows you the ability to put your flat screen TV on the wall with a minimal amount of space. The mount has a tilting pivot vertically. These mounts are great for areas that need to conserve space or don’t have a viewpoint of another room.

Articulating wall mount:

The articulating wall mount allows you the ability to pull your television from the wall and have horizontal turning. Depending on the wall mount that you purchase, the turning radius could vary. Typically, articulating wall mounts are used to turn the TV to face another room such as a dinning room or kitchen area.

Tools you will need:

Hanging your TV:

Step 1: Find the studs on your wall. This can be easily done by using a stud finder. Typically, houses are built with stud bays that are 16in apart. Most wall mount brackets extent past the normal stud distance allowing you to center the television better to the location that you want it.

Step 2: Attach the two arm bars to the back of the television. There should be four bolt holes to attach these arms that hang on to the flat bracket. Most mounts come with various different bolts to fit different TV bolt holes. They should also have a washer, lock washer, and spacers for more room behind the TV. (Note: make sure to detach the stand that comes with the television. Usually, there are four small screws attaching the stand to the main screen.

Step 3: Take measurements of the height of the television minus the stand. Then you will figure out where you want to put the television on the wall. Typically, your vision should be in the bottom third of the television when you are sitting on your couch. IT SHOULD NOT BE HUNG LIKE A PICTURE FRAME. When you have discovered where the television is going to be, mark it out on the wall with some painter’s tape. Now measure the distance between the top of the TV to where the hook of the arms start. Likewise, measure it out on the wall. This will be where the top of the bracket will be placed.

Step 4: Time for the hard work. Place the bracket on the wall so that it is just under the second mark from the top that you just placed. Relatively put the bracket up on the wall level and drill out one bolt hole. Now put a bolt in and fasten it so that it’s able to stay straight on the wall, but not too tight so that you can move it. Grab the level and place it on the bracket. Adjust accordingly and then drill out another hole in the other stud. Put in the second lag bolt and tighten both. When completed, drill out the other two holes and screw in the lag bolts. You now have successfully placed your bracket upon the wall.

Step 5: Now is the time you have been waiting for; hanging your new TV on the wall. Make sure that the arms are tight and the arcing motion is locked. DO NOT HANG THE TV UP YOURSELF. A lot of the televisions aren’t that heavy, but they are awkward. It is always a good idea to get some help with hanging it. Once on the wall, lock the vertical arc to the way that you want it. After, screw in the security bolts to the bracket so that the TV can’t be pulled off of the wall.

You have completed your process of hanging your TV on the wall. This should give you an idea of what your finished product should look like!

Some things that you should think about when mounting your television is putting your cables in wall, so that just your television will be hanging on the wall. Another important thing to think about is the power. Most people will have an electrician come in and move the power outlet up behind the television so that the power cord can be easily hidden due to the fact that the power cord is not regulated for in wall use.

Hanging your new television can be done that easily and at your own convenience.
