The home improvement project that this article will discuss is how to re-caulk a sink.

Materials needed:

Caulking Gun, Caulk, nail, safety equipment, bleach, bucket and towel

Step #1: The first step in any home improvement is to decide which home improvement project you will like to tackle.

Step #2: Before the sink can have new caulk, the old must be removed. Here is a simple tip to removing the old caulk. A utility knife or a box cutter is a great tool to remove the gunk. Remove as much of the gunk as you can with the knife. If all the caulk cannot be removed with the knife, try scraping it out with a flat screwdriver.

Step #3: Mildew and dirt may be left behind. It is easy to remove. A bleach solution (one part bleach to three parts water), is a handy solution for cleaning around the house. The bleach solution should be kept in an empty spray bottle which should be labeled. Mildew can be harmful to all residents in the home. The bucket and towel is to wipe away the remaining bleach solution as well as the remaining caulk.

Step #4: The nozzle to the caulking tube should be cut an angle with a knife. The slanting of the nozzle will give the new caulking a clean edge. The tube of the caulk can be placed into the caulking gun. A simple bead of caulk around the sink can now be added.

Step # 5: The caulking should be allowed to dry for twenty four hours before any type of use.

Step #6: An old trick to remember when caulking any type of projects is that there is always left over material. Not sure what to do with the remaining caulk? Simple. A nail can be inserted into the nozzle of the tube. What is the purpose of this? The inserted nail will save and keep the caulk fresh for at least two months.

Step #7: Shopping for these materials is quite easy to find. Any hardware store will carry all the tools needed to complete this home improvement project. This project will take no more than twenty minutes or so to complete. The size of the area needing to be caulked will determine just how long it will take to finish.
