John Paul Pet Tooth & Gum Wipe
When our first Silky died, my husband purchased another Silky for my birthday. I vowed then that I would get this one used to having her teeth brushed so we wouldn’t run into this problem. I purchased a special meat flavored pet toothpaste and a finger brush. My Vet told me that if I didn’t want to brush her teeth, the simple act of wiping them regularly with a cotton cloth would make a big difference. Now I’ve found a product that makes this chore even easier! It’s a tooth and gum wipe made by John Paul Pet.
Description
This wipe is cloth like and very durable, measuring a generous 7″ by 5″. It has a fresh minty smell that reminds me of a tube of Crest toothpaste. The wipes come in a round tub, and pop up, much like those familiar baby wipes. They are easy to remove, even with just one hand.
Ingredients
Water, methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben, isobutylparaben, propylparaben, phenoxyethanol, polysorbate 20, propylene glycol, fragrance, and sodium bicarbonate.
Thoughts
Our dog loves people food, and she likes all flavors and tastes of food, so it didn’t surprise me that she didn’t mind the minty flavor of these tooth & gum wipes, and she regularly licks her chops while I am in the process of cleaning her teeth.
These are so much easier to use than messy toothpaste and a finger toothbrush! All you need to do is wipe these across your pets teeth and gums, and I see residue come off on them each time. When I first started using them, I did get a but too agressive and a little bit of blood came off on the cloth, so I now take it easy and gently wipe each tooth and gum.
The sodium bicarbonate is in the wipe to give it a bit of an abrasive action. My father used to brush his teeth with baking soda to make them white, so I see why they would add a natural ingredient like this. Baking soda also absorbs odors, which makes sense that these might help keep a pets breath smelling fresher, and from personal experience I can say these have improved our dogs teeth and they do make her breath much more pleasant to be around.
