Why You Need a Hood on Your Saltwater Aquarium
Whether accidentally or on purpose there is a chance that something could end up in your saltwater aquarium that neither you nor your fish want to be in there. When you have small children in the house that can reach up to the top of the aquarium it is extremely important to have a hood on the aquarium to prevent a child from sharing their toys or food with the fish. People are not the only individuals you have to be concerned about when you don’t have a hood on your aquarium.
Some fish consider themselves to be quite the jumpers and will attempt to jump out of the aquarium. This of course could seriously injure them, plus if your fish did this when no one was in the room they could not be returned to the aquarium in time. By having a hood on the saltwater aquarium the rate at which the water in the aquarium evaporates will slow down and the hood will collect the evaporated water and much of it will re-enter the aquarium. A hood on a saltwater aquarium will reduce the need for a heating unit because it will help the aquarium retain heat.
When an aquarium is near a wall it is important to have a hood on because then you don’t have to be concerned about water splashing and damaging the walls, floors and furniture that are around the saltwater aquarium. A hood will even help prevent the aquarium light from becoming damaged by water, ideally you want to choose a hood that houses the aquarium light. As you can see there are numerous reasons that a saltwater aquarium needs to have a hood on it for the comfort of the saltwater fish inside the aquarium as well as for many conveniences for you. Although it may feel like it is one more thing that you will have to get to start a saltwater aquarium with all that it can do and help prevent it is well worth the cost.
