There a three primary types of hammocks. Hammocks are typically made from Rope, Fabric, or String mesh-webbing. Any of these hammocks can be hung or suspended between 2 trees or posts or fashioned to ground or floor stands.

Rope Hammocks

Rope hammocks are usually the most common, most durable and the least expensive of the 3 types. And they are cooler to the skin because they are constructed with cotton polyester rope blend, and allow for easy airflow through the weave of the hammock. A rope hammock will also more readily conform more to your body.

Cotton rope hammocks are perfect for people who take their hammock out of the elements on a normal basis for storage. In particular, hammocks made from polyester rope are probably the most weather resistant. Rope hammocks and mesh-fabric hammocks are the least comfortable.

Fabric Hammocks

Fabric hammocks offer a continuous surface. Fabric hammocks are built from various materials, from natural to synthetic. These hammocks are light weight and easier to handle and carry and set up than rope type hammocks.

Because they’ll also easily conform to the body, they have often been used in place of beds. And maintenance is fairly simple. While these hammocks don’t offer the ventilation that a rope hammock will, some of the synthetic fabrics can repel moisture.

String or Mayan Style Hammocks
