Ten Ways to Revamp Your Hallway to Fully Utilize the Space

Many people neglect the space that hallways can provide. Some leave them bare and unappealing to the eye. They are often forgotten because we just spend our time walking through them, but they can be great for setting the tone of your house and showing off your crafty design skills.

1. Treat your hallways as another room and pay attention to the space that it provides. If your hallway has a window and if space allows, then why not put a small table, chair or bench underneath it? This can serve as a great place to sit and read a book or get some work done in a cozy place besides your couch or bedroom.

2. Lighting is an essential element if you do not have a window in your hallway. Add a pretty floor lamp or a few small lighting fixtures from the ceiling for a dramatic change.

3. Take advantage of the wall space in your hall by hanging pictures or mirrors to create the illusion of space.

4. Add shelves to store books, photo albums, DVDs or your music collection. Use your own belongings as dÃ?©cor, but make sure it doesn’t look like clutter since you’re working with a limited amount of space. You don’t want to feel claustrophobic when walking down the hall.

5. Splash some color on the walls to make long narrow hallways wider than they really are. Use a fun patterned wallpaper if you don’t feel like breaking out the paint.

6. Hanging curtains, paintings or laying down a really decorative rug are other ways to give your hallway some extra color and style.

7. Feel relaxed by adding flowers or plants in your hallway. Try adding some flowers in a pretty vase on a small table to add color and comfort. Hanging a few small potted plants in the corner of walls also spruces things up.

8. If you’re dying for space in your home or apartment then try installing some hooks so you can hang up your coats, bags or umbrellas.

9. If your hallway is large and wide then add some functional furniture that will offer more storage or beautiful antique pieces that will add character. A beautiful closet, bookshelf, bench or chairs are some to consider.

10. No matter how big or small your hallway is you want to make sure it is inviting and cozy. Your main goal is to want to utilize the space that the hallway provides.
