Padlocks Revealed – Protect Your Valuables!

When padlocks were first introduced, they were an inexpensive and a great way to keep your belongings and valuables safe. Usually you could find combination padlocks built into almost every locker at schools and gyms. All you had to have to open them was three number combination. Turning the lock clockwise three times stopping on the first number, twice counterclockwise on the second number, and one last spin clockwise on the final number and the padlock would open.

As the combination padlock become more and more popular, more people started to forget their unique combination, and that only caused problems when they needed to retrieve their belongings. If you had a very good memory, combination padlocks are not a problem. Some people even write down the combination somewhere, but it isn’t always accessible when you need it. If the combination was lost, a strong pair of bolt cutters or a torch would be required to cut the lock.

The lock and key padlock was released shortly after the combination lock. They were much easier to use, as all they required was a key. When you purchased a lock and key padlock, they usually came with two keys. You bring one with you and keep a spare at home or in a safe place in case you lose your main key. People often purchase a key bungee or a necklace to wear their key so they do not lose it.

There are many brands of padlocks available today. One of the longest running and established brand is the Master Lock brand. They have been known to have the strongest locks, and are virtually indestructible. In fact, you can even shoot a Master Lock with a gun and it will still be intact. Because of their legendary reliability and solid grade steel, Master Lock is a top choice for protecting valuables.

However, they are not the only choice. Other tough brands you should consider include KW, MedecoMedeco, and Multi-Lock. Try to avoid the no name brand locks, as they tend to be built with thinner steel, and are easier to break. You can compare two locks by simply picking them up and feeling which one is heavier. Generally speaking, the heavier the lock, the more solid and reliable it is.

The good thing about padlocks is that they offer security and protection for a small cost. Locking up your valuables will keep the thieves away and give you a piece of mind. Best of all, they are readily available at your local hardware store.
