How to Cook Pumpkin Seeds Easily

Pumpkin seeds used to just be the leftover extras after you’ve carved a jack-o-lantern. It is now, however, becoming more and more popular to cook the pumpkin seeds in a multitude of ways.

The seeds are also very healthy for you and if you are carving a pumpkin you should have no problem getting pumpkin seeds. So why not just try them while you have the opportunity this fall. They taste great and are full of nourishment. There are many different ways to cook pumpkin seeds, here are two methods that are quick and easy. Things that are needed are a baking sheet, cooking spray, salt or other seasoning, and obviously pumpkin seeds.

Method #1: Cooking Pumpkin Seeds in the Oven

Start off by rinsing off the seeds and use your fingers to make sure the pulp is removed from the seeds. Then you lay the seeds out on some paper towels to dry overnight. This is an important step.

Next you need to preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Place non-stick foil to cover your baking sheet. Then toss the pumpkin seeds in olive oil or some butter, or spray them down with a reasonable amount of cooking spray.

Now you need to season your seeds for flavor. Sprinkle some salt over the seeds and add a seasoning that you like. Add some paprika or cayenne pepper to give it some extra flavor and zing. Next you need to let the seeds dry for another night, then add some more seasoning.

You should bake the seeds for one hour at 250 degrees. Make sure you turn the seeds about every fifteen to twenty minutes for a full toasting. When the seeds turn golden brown you will know they are done.

Now you to cool the seeds. You must make sure they are cool before you eat them. You can store them up to three months at room temperature in some sort of airtight container. They can be stored up to a year in the freezer.

Method # 2: Skillet Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

Cook the pumpkin seeds this time. Place your seeds in a skillet pan over a medium heat. Shake or stir the seeds frequently when over the fire to prevent the pumpkin seeds from burning. When they start to turn golden brown or begin to pop open, they are done. Usually using this method they take around an hour to cook them well.

Now you need to season the seeds after you cook them. Remove them from the skillet and place them on a plate or paper towel, then add the seasoning mixture that you desire. Make sure to cool the seeds before serving them.
