A Brief Overlook at the Up and Downs of Solar Energy

What exactly is solar energy?

Solar energy is its most brief form is the conversion of light from our star ‘the sun’ into a form of electricity, as the climate changes we are looking at more ways of using more environmentally acceptable solutions to gain electricity. Solar energy is one of the most widely used ways of doing this. Another way of conversion from the earth’s natural environmental resources is wind power, which in itself has ups and downs to its workings.

Disadvantages of solar energy:

Ã?§ Setting up solar energy in your home is not a cheap undertaking – you are able to obtain government grants in selected countries under current environmental schemes but you will still need to have available most of the funding to install the solar energy source for your home.

§ They require a large area to be placed on, although they are now developing solutions to decrease the visibility of such devices because as they are they are bulky ugly items to have on your home.

§ Solar energy can be effected by over hanging clouds which decreases the amount of sun light able to emit onto the solar panels and decreasing the amount of electricity generated during the day. Also solar panels are unable to generate electricity from the sun during the evening, so therefore would be unsuitable for locations such as in the Antarctic where they have long periods of darkness.

Advantages of solar energy:

§ There may be a large setup fee for the solar panels, but overall they will save you money whilst you are living in that home.

Ã?§ You will decrease your carbon footprint – if everyone did this then there would be no environmental emergencies currently.

§ You become independent from energy companies and will be able to maintain your own source of electricity even if the power stations fail.

§ Solar panels are low maintenance, easily cleaned and will last a long period of time before they need replacing.

§ You will be helping animal species across the world by decreasing your output, hence their environment will not be as effected by our pollution.

Overall Solar energy is one of the most effective ways of generating electricity for your homes, and with the new increase in technology, we are now able to work on 100% efficient ways of converting the suns rays into electricity and storing it for evening time, I therefore see solar energy as the most effective way of generating environmentally friendly electricity.
