– 1/8 inch thick craft wood

Prior to starting this project, it is best that you first cover your work area with a few sheets of old newspaper to make cleanup easier. Gently sand the outside of an unfinished cigar style wooden box with medium grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust from the wood surface with a tack cloth or other soft cloth. Spray the entire outside of the box with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let the box dry for an hour before proceeding. Paint the wood using Krylon Brushed Metallic Paint in Sparkling Canyon. Allow the box to dry for three to four hours before adding a second coat of paint. Dry overnight.

Place a sheet of 1/8 inch thick craft wood flat on your work area. With a bit of masking tape, adhere an ornate swirled patterned stencil onto the craft wood. In pencil, trace the design directly onto the wood. Remove the stencil. Use a ruler to create a rectangle sized shape over the design that is the same dimensions as the top of the box lid.

Cut out the rectangle shape with a jigsaw or other tool to cut craft wood. Use the same saw to cut out the ornate swirled design in the wood. Gently sand the craft board cutout with medium grit sandpaper. As done before, wipe away any dust with a tack cloth or other soft cloth. Prime the craft wood with a layer of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Dry for an hour, and then paint using a Krylon Short Cuts Hobby and Craft Paint Pen in Turquoise. Dry for an hour before adding a second coat. Let the craft wood dry overnight.

Heat up the hot glue gun and glue sticks. Apply a generous bead of glue around the unpainted side of the craft wood. Adhere the wood to the top of the copper painted box lid. Once the glue has cooled, spray the entire project with Krylon Crystal Clear Acrylic Spray. Dry overnight before using.
