The smallest room in the house is the bathroom, and many people have relatively smaller bathrooms than they would like to have. The bathroom is the hardest room in the house to change things around, in order to make the room look larger than what it is. People are always looking for an inexpensive way to remodel their bathroom. There are a few tricks that you can do, that will do just that. These tricks are fairly inexpensive and you do not have to do them all at one time. You can do them over a period of time.

Use Vanities

People want to have more storage space, without having that cluttered look. A few bathrooms may have a pedestal type sink. This type of sink, although it may look very good, is not very convenient. The space underneath this type of sink is wasting precious storage space. Vanity type sinks are the best to use in a small bathroom. This type of sink usually has a counter top with a few shelves inside it, for some extra storage space.

Use Shelves

You do not want to add too many things that will add to the clutter, however, a few uniquely placed shelves will help hold extra towels and other accessories without cluttering the bathroom. Using utility shelves such as one that goes over the toilet, will provide even more storage, and still not have that cluttered look.

There are even small corner shelves that can be installed in the corners of the bathtub. You may purchase an inexpensive shelf that simply slides over the shower head, and it does not get in the way when you are showering.

Usually there is a small space on the vanity, from the wall to the window, or the shower/bathtub, that is just an empty space. You can put a tall corner shelf her for cosmetics and other items.

Changing the Color of the Bathroom

Changing the color of the bathroom will greatly increase the illusion of having a larger room. Most bathrooms are painted with white because this color gives the illusion of largeness, and it reflects the light as well. Many people complain that white is so common and plain, that it looks as like a hospital bathroom. You can change this by using soothing pastel colors, with darker accent colors on the trim. Paint is more inexpensive than any other type of wall or floor materials.

Change the Lighting

If you change the mirror over the sink, with a mirror with light bulbs on it, you will increase the amount of light in the bathroom. This will make it much easier to apply your cosmetics or shave. Also, if you put a larger mirror on another wall it will help increase the light, and make the bathroom look much larger. All of these items are fairly inexpensive to install.
