Sombrero cake is a Spanish cake that is made in the shape of a sombrero hat. The cake can be made at a Spanish themed party as it gives a great Latin American feel. It takes some time to be made, but the end results are brilliant. Also, the coloured frostings give the cake a good colourful look.
Ingredients
  • Boxes of chocolate cake mix: 2
  • Instant chocolate pudding: 1
  • Cooking oil: ½ cup
  • Milk: 1 cup
  • Eggs: 4
  • Powdered sugar: 1 cup
  • Vanilla: 2 teaspoons
Instructions
  1. To make the base of the sombrero cake, a large round cake has to be prepared. Add cake mix with cooking oil and eggs in a large bowl and repeatedly stir the mixture until it completely dissolves.
  2. Also pour some water in the pan so that no blocks are made in the filling. When combined, add the batter into the baking pan and evenly level the surface
  3. Put the cake batter in the oven and bake until the colour turns golden brown.
  4. To check whether the mixture is done, insert a toothpick in the centre and if it comes out clean, the cake is ready
  5. For the top part of the sombrero cake, two smaller cakes have to be prepared.
  6. Follow the same process but this time in a smaller baking pan for the upper layer of the sombrero. When done, set aside to cool down.
  7. The frosting has to be made by adding vanilla, sugar and milk in a bowl. The mixture should be stirred until desired results are achieved.
  8. Now cut the edges of all the three cakes and place the large one at the bottom. Place the second cake on top and the third cake should be cut in a smaller shape so it looks as the smallest at the top. Apply the frosting to all the three layers until it completely covers the cake. Food colour can also be added to the frosting
  9. The Sombrero cake can further be decorated with the help of different patterns, shapes and using candies. Jelly beans can also be used around the outside for a more fringe look.
