How to install a smoke detector

Smoke detectors are designed to detect fires, accompanied by smoke in the rooms and characterized by high detection ability at an early stage of fire.

The old idiom says, “There’s no smoke without fire.” The smoke detector detects smoke and set off the alarm. Install a smoke detector is an effective and inexpensive way to get rid from any potential fire disaster.

According to reports (FEMA) Emergency Agency of the United States, majority of fatal fires occur when people are sleeping as they have limited time to escape the parameters when they get to know what happened.

Smoke detectors are installed on top of the floor and when it detects smoke (intensive), it makes a sound and gives a flashing warning to the people in the surroundings.

The smoke detector should be installed in each room (bedroom, closet, reading room … etc.) and in the corridor as well as in the lobby. When you install a smoke detector, you must place them in the center of the upper ceiling.

Things Required:

– Screw Driver
– Tape measures
– Ladder
– Drill machine
– Batteries.

Instructions

  • 1

Measure the distance between the mounting holes on the mounting bracket before making the holes to be drilled in the ceiling.

  • 2

Once you are done with the measurement, drill small holes according to the measurements after using a drill machine and the ladder. If the smoke detector is wireless, you must connect it to a network after carefully reading the given instructions.

  • 3

Attach the mounting bracket to the ceiling with the help of screws and place the detector into the bracket. Keep turning the smoke detector clockwise until it stops.

  • 4

After attaching it to the ceiling make sure that you have placed the required amount of batteries in the battery holder. Don’t forget to check if the batteries are working properly after pushing a test button on the smoke detector. Most devices usually have a warning signal that indicates when to change your batteries. However, it is recommended that you should change the batteries twice in a year.

If there is more than one detector in the room, the distance between the sensors should not be more than 9 meters. This rule is valid for a ceiling up to height of 3.5 meters, provided that there are no elements in the ceiling (beams, decorative elements, etc.), which can prevent the overflow of smoke.
