How to Play the Great Game of Snooker

The great game of snooker became famous in early 19th century but it is very old game as evidences have been found that its roots were emerged in 16th century. Now a day’s many people have snooker tables in their homes or in offices, and there are people who don’t know how to play this great game. It is very simple to play but mastering it is really hard and requires practice and time. Following step by step guide will explain how this game is played and what will be required for playing the Great Game of Snooker;

    Basic Equipment's:

    First of all you need right equipment to play the game which are;

    - A snooker table with 6 pockets
    - 22 unnumbered balls ( 15 reds, one white cue ball and 6 coloured balls)
    - Chalk
    - Stick

    Points Structure:

    - Each red ball carries 1 point
    - Yellow ball = 2 points
    - Green ball = 3 points
    - Brown ball = 4 points
    - Blue ball = 5 points
    - Pink ball = 6 points
    - Black ball = 7 points

    The aim of the game is to score higher as compared to your opponent.

    Star the game by tossing a coin, the person who wins the toss will take first turn. Game starts by keeping the cue ball in the "D" and then striking the red balls which are framed at the other corner of the table in between pink ball and the Black ball.

    The rule to play snooker is that you have to pot a red ball using your stick and cue ball, once a red ball is in pot, you have to pot another ball of different colour. This goes alternatively until all the red balls are finished.

    If any of the players fails to pot the ball, his/her turn is finished.

    Once a red ball has been potted, it cannot come out but other coloured balls have to be removed from pots every time.

    Once there are no more red balls left on the table. Start potting the coloured balls in a sequence starting from yellow and finish at the end with potting the Black one. The sequence goes as yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black.

    Once table is empty, compare the points, the player with more points will win the game.
