How to Take Out Cornrows

Cornrows, commonly known as braids, is a conventional African hair style worn by both men and women. It has a long history, dating back to the Stone Age.

Although it was only worn in Africa and Caribbean a couple of decades earlier, but it has emerged as one of the most popular hairstyles among many in recent times.

Cornrows provide a single hairstyle for several weeks or even several months, depending upon ones liking, which requires proper maintenance. However, when the time comes to remove them, it may take quite some time to take it out.

It is a delicate process to remove the braids, as pulling or tugging can damage your hairs as well as your scalp, and will take around 1 hour and 30 minutes to completely remove cornrows.

Start unlacing one cornrow at a time, working from the bottom up. Use your thumb or index finger to loosen tiny sections of your cornrow or braid. Untie the cornrows very gently or else you will damage your hair. Comb through each unlaced braid or cornrow before moving on to the next one helps to avoid hair chumming. Spray conditioner on twisted areas to help you in combing. Never pull or tug at a harsh tangle.
