Steps to Become a Tattoo Artist
Tattooing is an ancient art and need not be taken lightly as something that is done in leisure time just for the sake of some fun. This is perhaps the oldest form of body art that exists in our world.
It can be traced back to the old civilizations of Asia and New Zealand where body painting was a custom. Later, this art reached Europe and since then has invaded almost every land on this planet.
Today, it is a popular art in the US, where the tattooing business is considered quiet secure. So if you are good with your hands, have the basic knowledge about drawing then this business might be the one for you.

To become a tattoo artist also known as tattooer or tattooist, you first need to have good drawing skills, have some experience of drawing on paper, basic familiarity with the dimensions of different objects and good observation. Someone who can’t colour inside the lines should not jump in this business.

Having steady hands is the key, if your hands shiver then this will cause problems for you while working on the body of your client. You certainly do not want to be known as “the scratcher”, so it is best that you have steady hands.

The next step is to get an apprenticeship from a recognised tattooer. No matter how good you may think you are, you will still need proper training before starting your own business. You will not be allowed to tattoo anyone in the start unless you complete your training period. The apprentice is assigned to maintain the shop while he/she watches.

Once you have got the training needed, it is time for the real work to begin. To open your own tattoo shop, you first need to purchase the tools without which your business cannot take off. Basic tools that will be required by you include the tattoo machine, needles, grip, power supply, foot pedal, clip cord, tips, grip stem and tattoo ink.

With the tools at your disposal it is time to find a suitable location for your shop. It will take some time for you to find the shop that suits you the best. Remember if you plan on renting a tattoo studio, you need to have some capital which you can use to pay for your expenses before you start getting any profit from your new business.
