A Copyright lawyer looks after the rights of original work such as songs, photographs, videos, books, movies, and protects them from illegal and unauthorized use. Generally copyright lawyers work for studios, book publishers and other big names, however, they may represent individual clients as well.

    You should make up your mind about becoming a lawyer in high school so that you may develop the necessary traits of a lawyer at an early stage. The most important one of them all is hard work.

    You should strive for top notch results in the high school and work extremely hard during the course of your entire high school. Good grades will help you get admission in a decent university which will then ease the way for you in getting admission to a law school. Moreover the habit of hard work needs to be developed early as law studies are really tough and will require a lot of effort on your part. Participate in every speech and declamation contest in the high school to develop oratory skills. Also go for the mock trial that most high schools organize to polish your arguing skills.

    Get admitted in a 4 year under graduate program in a decent university. The subjects chosen in the under graduate level have no effect on the admission criteria in a law school but it is recommended to choose subjects related to law to gain some background knowledge.

    Also, go for courses related to intellectual property rights and copyright laws to develop an insight into the copyright law. Maintain cordial relations with your teachers as you will be in need of letters of recommendations by them. Remember, the cut-off GPA for most law schools is 3.0 so try to keep the GPA flag above that mark. It is advisable to attain a high GPA as it will help you in getting admission to a law school of choice.

    Work really hard on your LSAT (law school admission test) and try to achieve a high score on it. Keep on repeating till you get the desired score and then apply to law schools on the basis of your LSAT results and your degree GPA. Some schools give more credit to the GPA while some of them favour the LSAT results, so choose schools wisely. Work hard in your law program and try to pass all exams with flying colours.

    Work for publishers, record companies or software manufacturers as an intern to gain professional experience in the field of copyright law.

    Pass the bar exams after completing your law studies and earn your licence to practice law.
