How to Become a Registered Lawyer Overseas
Lawyers usually have the qualification to practice in their native country or they can work in a foreign country as well. However, if they want to work for overseas, they have to meet the requirements of the particular country of their clients they want to work with. You have to follow the jurisdiction of that country you are planning to work in. Every country has some similarities and some differences from the jurisdiction of other countries. You have to fulfil basic requirements of law to get registered in that country.
If you are an American national and a lawyer by profession and also want to work for overseas then you have to follow the general pre-requisites for a United States lawyer or attorney for becoming a registered lawyer in any other country of the world.

First of all, you have to meet the basic requirement of academic courses. A four-year degree from any recognized college or university and success in all tests at undergraduate level is the primary requirement.

After that four-year degree, you have to take admission in a law school after passing their admission test which is, Law School Test (LSAT). Then also get registered with American Bar Association (ABA) by passing their test as well.

Next step is that you need to ensure your participation in internships and clinical programs. You can get internship with a corporate law firm, local law school or with a government agency.

After completing your law degree, fulfil the requirements to get license of the state from where you belong. Mostly, it requires passing a test that is intended to check your knowledge in your particular area of study. These exams are generally Multi-State Essay Exam (MEE) or Multi-State Bar Exam (MBE).

Now you should check the directories of overseas lawyers for finding an international firm and complete the requirements and also pass tests in order to practice as a foreign lawyer.

You have to complete the requirements of jurisdiction admittance for that particular country you are looking forward to work with. Also get a firm understanding and knowledge about the law and situation of that specific country.

Then seek a temporary residency status in your desired foreign country by meeting their requirements for that purpose.

After getting temporary residency status, you should get registered with the United States Department of State. Create an account on their official website and by visiting your login area, register your overseas residence.
