Vera Rush Cocktail Recipe

Most of the time, cocktail preparation gets botched up and the result is a concoction that is unpleasant, bland, or bitter to the point of being unpalatable. However, the Vera Rush is an incredibly easy cocktail that is impossible to mess up, and can even be mixed by a blindfolded amateur. Comprising just two ingredients, the cocktail is highly versatile, and can appeal to the highbrow crowd, as well as burly nicotine-blackened beer drinkers.

A blend of tropical, island flavours like rum and pineapple juice, the Vera Rush is a delicate balance of subtle bitterness (from the rum), and tangy, fresh sweetness (from the pineapple). While many feel that certain cocktails require drinkers to develop a taste for them overtime, the Vera Rush is easy enough to like and enjoy from the very first sip. Delicious and addictive, the drink takes 5 or less minutes to prepare, and is bound to serve as a great cocktail for everything from noisy parties to solitary, contemplative drinking.

Preparation Time: 2 minutes
Serving Size: Serves 1 person
Utensils: Old-fashioned bar glass, stirring rod, cocktail mixing glass, strainer

Ingredients:
– ½ ounce of pineapple juice
– 2 ounces of rum
– Ice cubes/cracked ice

Instructions

  • 1

Start by placing your cocktail serving glass in the refrigerator, in order to chill it and give it a frosted appearance that will make for a more enjoyable cocktail. For this particular drink, a simple, no-nonsense old-fashioned bar glass will work best, but you can also use similar glasses like rocks or bucket glasses, or even a tall Collins glass if you are craving a larger drink.

Now, while the glass chills in the refrigerator, you can begin preparing the cocktail. Start by adding three or four ice cubes to your cocktail mixing glass (you can also use cracked ice, for a slightly diluted, watered down taste).

Then proceed to pour in the ingredients for the cocktail. Start by adding the rum to the ice-packed cocktail mixing glass, and then top this with the pineapple juice – fresh pineapple juice will obviously work best for this purpose, but you can also use pineapple juice from a bottle or carton.

Now, use a stirring rod to stir all the ingredients together, until they are properly mixed. Once they are all thoroughly incorporated, and the ice has chilled the drink sufficiently, your cocktail is ready. Take the chilled old-fashioned glass out of the refrigerator, hold a strainer over it, and pour in the drink. Drop two ice cubes into the glass and serve chilled, without any frivolous garnishes.
