How To Clean Synthetic Wigs
There are two types of wigs; synthetic wigs and human hair wigs. While it is ideal to have a human hair wig, synthetic wigs are easier to care for and are cheaper to get. Compared to human wigs, synthetic wigs hardly require any chemicals for maintenance. These wigs are made of monofilament fibre hair which is capable of maintaining the waves and curls it comes with. In addition, if properly cared for, this monofilament fibre can maintain its volume and texture for long.
Instructions
-
1
Start by filling the sink with cold tap water. Make sure you are not using hot water as that can damage the texture of the wig.
-
2
Next, add a few capsules or a few drops of synthetic wig shampoo in the water.
-
3
Add one teaspoon of baking soda to mix.
-
4
Brush out the knots and kinks in the wig with a bristle or wire brush. Make sure there are no knots before you start washing the wig. Also, do not use a non-wig brush for cleaning it. There are separate brushes for wigs, which you can get from the market.
-
5
Now, put the wig in the sink and let it soak for a minute.
-
6
Next, take the wig out from the sink and set it on a dry towel.
-
7
Dampen your hands in the basin mix. Use your thumb to gently rub the wig cap to wipe off dirt and grime.
-
8
Now, place the wig back into the sink and let it sink for 20 to 30 minutes.
-
9
Once soaked well, take the wig out and rinse it under cold tap water. Make sure you are not rinsing the wig too harshly. You have already cleaned it well so now you just need to rinse off the shampoo.
-
10
Once rinsed, squeeze excess water out in sink but do not twist the wig.
-
11
Immediately after wash, place the wig on its head stand so that it can hold its shape.
-
12
Now, spray the wig with a wig conditioning formula to ensure it remains soft once it is dry.
-
13
Let the wig dry for around 30 minutes in normal air conditions.
