How To Clean Hard and Soft Contact Lenses

Cleaning contact lenses is not a technical process but one that requires utter dedication and care. Whether hard or soft, your contact lenses are very delicate. Even the slightest mishandling can cause the lenses to break, crack or have wrinkles, which would of course make it difficult for you to see through them. Remember, cleaning contact lenses is easy but the way you do it counts a lot. If you cannot keep them clean, you should not use them. Unclean contact lenses can cause eye irritation and infections, so make sure you know what you are doing.

Instructions

  • 1

Start with washing your hands with soap thoroughly. Make sure your hands are clean of any dirt, grease or debris.

  • 2

Dry your hands with a towel. Make sure you wipe them off completely and that there is no moisture in your hands.

  • 3

Now, hold your lower eyelid with your right fingers, leaving out the index finger and thumb, and the upper eyelid with your left fingers. Use the thumb and index finger of your right hand to remove the contact lenses from the eye. Follow the same process with your left eye as well.

  • 4

Now, you need to put the lenses in the cleaning solution for at least five minutes. You are doing this to allow the lenses to absorb the moisture and retain their softness. Do not start rinsing the lenses in the solution as most people do. This can only damage the contact lenses and nothing else.

  • 5

Next, take the lenses out from the solution and place them on your palm one by one. Now, pour some cleaning solution on the lenses. Make sure you put enough solution to allow the lenses soak.

  • 6

With your left index finger, gently rub the lenses against your palm. Do not go too harsh here. You need to be gentle and just a little rinsing would do.

  • 7

Now, you can wear the contact lenses or put them back in the solution.
