Mike Romanoff Cocktail Recipe

The Mike Romanoff cocktail is named after its creator, a famous Hollywood restaurateur who was born a prince (the nephew of a late tsar), and ended up moving to America. With close and personal friendships with stars like Humphrey Bogart, Jayne Mansfield, and Cary Grant, Romanoff played host to many from the rich and famous set at his restaurant, which was the birthplace of a number of drinks, among them the Mike Romanoff cocktail.

Made of unique, trendy ingredients like vodka, Cointreau, apricot liqueur, lime juice, and bitters, the Mike Romanoff cocktail is characterised by its tartness, with a faint undertone of sweet apricot flavour. Make sure you use freshly squeezed lime juice, and serve the drink in chilled martini glasses. A perfect cocktail for a glamorous lunch, or a late evening party, the Mike Romanoff is bound to evoke a sense of old Hollywood with its good-looking appearance and potent, almost ruthless taste.

Preparation Time: 2 to 5 minutes
Serving Size: Serves one person
Utensils: Cocktail shaker, martini glass

Ingredients
– 2 ounces vodka
– 1 teaspoon Cointreau
– 1 teaspoon apricot liqueur
– 1 ounce fresh lime juice
– 2 dashes bitters
– Ice cubes or cracked ice

Instructions

  • 1

Start by placing your martini glass in the refrigerator – you will need to make sure the glass is chilled and frosted before you pour in the cocktail and serve it.

  • 2

While the glass is cooling, take a cocktail shaker and fill half of it with ice cubes or cracked ice – while both types of ice will be effective in cooling the drink, the cracked ice will lend it a slightly watery taste.

  • 3

Once the ice is in, proceed to pour the 2 ounces of vodka, 1 teaspoon of Cointreau, 1 teaspoon of apricot liqueur, and 1 ounce of fresh lime juice into the cocktail shaker. Finally, add in 2 dashes of bitters – this is more of a modern addition, and was not present in the original drink. The bitters give the drink a slightly pink tinge, which a character like Mike Romanoff would probably not have approved of.

Now that everything is in, cover the cocktail shaker tightly, and shake it for few seconds until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Your Mike Romanoff Cocktail is now ready – pour it into the chilled martini glass, and serve immediately.
