How to Clean Jewelry at Home
Every woman loves to wear jewellery made up of precious metals, like silver, copper and gold. But the bad thing about these adornments is that they tarnish over time. For precious jewellery items like gold or diamond, you go to a professional jeweller, but the less expensive ones are often tossed away.
However, using a few household items – like lemon, vinegar, ketchup, dishwashing detergent and ammonia – you can easily keep your jewellery looking as good as new. Toothpaste is the best household item to make your pair of diamond studs shiny, beer is a perfect cleaner for gold, while ketchup is a great remedy for silver and copper adornments. But there are few other tricks as well that you can try to clean your jewellery.

Diamonds
Make a solution of ammonia and water, mixing ¼ cup of ammonia in one cup of warm water. Place your diamond jewellery piece in this solution for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove it from the solution and gently scrub the areas between the diamond and the setting with a soft toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly under running tap water and put it out on a tissue to dry.

Pearls
Mix a few drops of mild dishwashing powder in two cups of warm water. Dip a clean cotton cloth in this mixture and dab each pearl individually. Never dip your pearl jewellery in the cleaning solution, as it can cause the string to stretch. After having cleaned all the pearls, clean them with a soft cloth dampened in warm tap water. Let the cleaned jewellery item air-dry overnight.
