How to Make Cleopatra’s Milk Bath

Famed for her beauty, the renowned Egyptian queen Cleopatra was an avid user of milk baths to improve her complexion and help it attain a radiant glow. The treatment is still popular today and highly effective, as milk contains lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid – this naturally removes dead cells and has cleansing and nourishing properties for skin. Whether you are looking to nourish your dry skin, or simply wishing to pamper yourself with a luxurious beauty treatment, a milk bath can be whipped up at home in no time.

Things Required:

– 2 to 4 cups of fresh milk or buttermilk
– 1 to 2 cups of fresh honey
– 2-3 drops of essential oil

Instructions

  • 1

Start by running a comfortable, lukewarm bath. The temperature of the water should be average, and such that it does not burn or feel uncomfortable on your bare skin.

Once the tub is filled, pour in the milk, followed by the honey. Do not use too much water, or fill the tub up to the brim, as you should avoid diluting the milk and honey too much – this is where your judgment kicks in as you will need to tailor the quantity of the ingredients to fit factors such as the size of your tub and the amount of water you want to bathe in. Also keep in mind that whole milk is the best option to use in this case, as it will be more nourishing for your skin.

Add in a few drops of your favourite essential oil if you wish (to feel more like a queen from an Egyptian dynasty, you might consider using exotic scents, like sandalwood). Use your hand to swirl it all through the water until it is all completely mixed.

Finally, slip in and start bathing. Use a sponge, a washcloth, or a loofa to rub off dead skin cells and aid the effectiveness of the milk bath. Soak in the mixture for at least 20 to 30 minutes, to allow the nourishing and moisturising properties of the milk bath to penetrate your skin and lend it a glowing touch. Once you are done, rinse your body, and pat it dry.
