How to Write a Business Plan Proposal

When companies want to expand their exiting unit or even open a new venture, they have to write a surefire business proposal plan.

A business proposal plan is an orderly presentation of facts about a specific business activity (a new plant, company, venture, unit) or program. Although it consists mainly of facts, it often contains a bit of analysis of the writer that writes that proposal.

Some business proposal plans even include the writer’s interpretation of the given information with conclusions and recommendations.

Bear in mind, every business proposal is written — not oral. Informally or hastily created business proposal plans save the time of the writer, but that report might not go down well with the upper management and executives. So be sure that you give the report its due time.

    Describe business

    Give a brief description of the business first. You can write a bit of background of the company, mentioning how it got where it is right now. Bear in mind that the description of business should not sound like a success story. However, mention the prominent achievements briefly.

    Things that you will have to mention in the description part:

    - Type of business: Whether the company is being run as a corporate, partnership or sole proprietorship.

    - Date founded: Mention the date the company was founded.

    - Place: The place where the company/facility/unit is located.

    - Industry: Mention what industry the company belongs to.

    - Stats: Briefly state the annual revenue projections.

    Financial Plan

    The financial plan includes the details of how the funds/finance will be generated to run the facility/unit. Financial plans also include projected financial statements (projected income statement, projected cash flow statement).

    Marketing Plan

    In order to convince the executives and investors to pour money into the proposed plan, a vibrant marketing plan is crucial. The plan should detail the opportunities of revenue growth in a certain market or niche. Briefly mention the target market, competitors, customers and overall economic and legal environment of the market.

    Business Operations

    The section “Business operations” should mention how the product or service will be produced. All the steps from manufacturing to the final output (vendors, suppliers, material or workforce) should be briefly stated. The cost of production or service should be given to help the readers understand the overall scenario.

    Workforce/staff/employees

    Give the details of the number of total workforce and executives. Detail the hierarchical structure (such as board of directors, shareholders, managerial staff, secretaries and advisors).
