How to Grow Seeds Indoors

Growing seeds indoors has its own advantages. One can grow their  seeds indoor and transfer them later to the outdoors to increase the ratio of success. Growing seeds indoors also speeds up the germination process because of the warmer temperature. You also have the convenience of tending to the seed’s needs indoors and do not have to go out in the cold. Growing seeds indoors is a really simple and easy process if you have the right information and are aware of the requirements. If you do not, you might end up having a plant less year.

    Choose container:

    The first part of the growth is to choose a container for the seeds. These containers can be mud, plastic or any material that can hold soil and water enough for the seed.  You can sue discarded containers form the kitchen like yogurt plastic containers after washing them.  If you want to give proper attention to each seed, take individual compartments or containers because this way they will get the right amount of space. However, one thing that you should do in every container is to make a small drainage hole in the bottom. This way the excess water will be discharged off and there wont be any water logging.

    Seeding mix:

    Get a good balanced seeding mix from the local nursery. These seeding mixes encourage seed growth. Ordinary soil usually gets compact and is a hard medium for seeds to germinate. Now add water to the seeding mix and make it into a thick paste like peanut butter. It should be moistened but not soggy. Fill the containers to a level which is an inch lower than top.

    Use a pencil to make seed furrows in places you want to grow. Drop in seeds in them. After this fill up the holes with the seeding mix and press in a bit.

    Taking care of the seeds:

    Place the containers on the window sill or on a small table near the window where they can get ample sunlight. You can also keep them at places where they will get bottom heat like refrigerator or oven top. You can also cover up the containers with plastic wrap to create a a greenhouse effect that accelerates plant growth. However, do a moisture check everyday and make sure that the container is moist.When the seedlings start appearing, you can remove the plastic cover and let the plant bask in sunshine. With time, prune out the weaker seedlings. Once strong enough, transfer the seedlings to a prepared spot outdoors.
