How to Draw a Beach Scene

Not everyone can draw an exotic beach scene, as you have to be really good with drawing and sketching before going out and trying to capture the essence of a beach on paper. If you do not know the basics of art, you will probably ruin whatever you try to draw. However, with a few steps in mind you can certainly transform an average sketch into something worth watching.

Instructions

  • 1

The first step is to draw a horizontal line on a drawing paper. Make sure that it is across the middle of the page. This will be your horizon once the drawing is complete, it will appear extending out over the water.

  • 2

Then sketch a curving line lower down the page. This will be the storyline of your sketch. You need to draw the curves as they are for showing shape changes in the beach and small rises in the sand.

  • 3

Now, just above the shore you need to draw a line which splits into two lines and then becomes a single line once again. You can draw more lines like this one as these will represent the waves.

  • 4

Now in order to represent the trunk of the trees, you will have to draw some curving lines which are directed upward.

  • 5

You need to draw some circles which will later appear as clouds in the sky. Remember clouds are a very important part of your sketch as a sky without clouds will be bland and unreal.

  • 6

Now, the next step is to draw a series of jagged lines across the palm trees. You need to erase the sharp edges which were the outlines of the palm fronds.

  • 7

In order to show details in the breaking waves you will have to shade them with a pencil.

  • 8

You can always draw another set of partial curving lines for representing both ends of the cloud.

  • 9

Now is the time to colour your sketch. Choose high-quality colours which will enhance the appearance of your picture. You need to colour within the lines but not the same shade all across. It is always advisable to colour some places light and some dark to portray realistic lighting. Colour shadings in your drawing will give it a more realistic touch and represent the direction of light.
