How to Check Status of Tax Return
Most all of us hate paying taxes but it is our civic duty and the law. The thought of getting a nice tax return usually brings some respite to the pain of paying all of these nasty taxes. If you are looking to check the status of your tax return then the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website is your main source of finding and checking the status. If you follow some simple guidelines you can pursue this avenue by visiting the IRS website online or contacting the customer service department to get help with checking with your status of your tax return.

Determine the information you require to get started. You will be required to know the exact amount of the return, your marital/ filing status, along with your Social Security number. Having all these facts ready will facilitate you in the remaining process. Be sure that all of the information is accurate and up to date as you do not want to give the wrong information to the Internal Revenue Service.

Turn on your computer or laptop and make sure that the operating system is properly loaded. Find the icon for your internet browser and click on it. Once it opens then access the IRS website by going to irs.gov. On the left side, look for ‘Check on your Refund’. You will be then linked to Where’s My Refund? on the next page, where you will need to fill the required field by inserting the relevant details mentioned in Step 1. Keep a record of the information of the tax return. The IRS representatives will upload the information in the next 72 hours. Set a time or a date for yourself when you visit the website to check your status.
In case you have mailed the paper work for your return, you will have to wait four to six weeks, as recommended by the IRS. Call the IRS customer service department for added information. Pursue the mailing process if you don’t have internet access. However, the e-filing process is speedy and less time consuming. -

Check your status – Pending, Accepted or Rejected. If the return has been rejected, it is likely that a reason will be mentioned and indications will be provided on how to re-do the process. Correct all the errors before resubmitting the return. The response is likely to take another two to three days.
If the return has been approved, then you will be directed on when to expect a refund. In most cases, the amount will be deposited in your account. On the contrary, information on how to submit your payments will also be mentioned.
