How to Breed Cockatiel Pet Bird

Cockatiels are one of the most sophisticated birds, and are one of the most adorable ones as well. Many people believe that breeding the cockatiels at home is not an easy task. However, in reality, it is not that difficult, as one can easily breed these birds with the help of right equipments and knowledge. Most pairs do not take much time to lay eggs, and they usually hatch in around 20 days or so.

    Purchase a pair of healthy cockatiels in order to breed them. Local pet shops and breeders are the perfect place to find a good and healthy pair of cockatiels. Make sure that the pair you are purchasing have clear eyes and noses, and have all their feathers. If they are slow to react or not attentive to your approach or actions, do not purchase them, as there is a possibility that they are suffering from a disease.

    Purchase a cage that has enough space to have a nesting box. In addition, the cage should be large enough for the birds to enjoy a bit of freedom in it while moving inside it. Also keep in mind that the cage should be large enough to hold the chicks after the eggs hatch and the parents as well. A 9x11x12 inches cage is enough to hold the cockatiels and the chicks, but one can purchase a larger cage if they want to give more room to the birds.

    Place few toys , chewing toys are recommended, for the birds to play with them before placing the cockatiels inside the cage.

    Always feed the birds with healthy diet, and make sure that they do not eat anything harmful. Quality seed mix, fresh greens, sprouts and fruits are perfect for the cockatiels. Also provide cuttlebones or a mineral block for the birds, as it will keep the mother bird enough calcium for healthy chicks. Also make sure that the birds have sufficient water inside their cage.

    Make sure that the box has bedding material, for instance wood shavings or shredded paper, in order to protect the eggs from breaking or rolling.
