How to Visit the Getty Museum

The J. Paul Getty Museum is located in two cities, Los Angeles and Malibu. The Getty Museum located in Los Angeles is called “Getty Centre” and the one situated in Malibu is known as Getty Villa. Both the museums are well known for attracting huge crowds during exhibitions and programming in the visual arts. You will find different collections available at both the locations, thanks chiefly to the special exhibitions and other research programs held at the museums.

    You can take the Metro Rapid Line 761 to reach the museum. The metro will stop at the main gate on the Sepulveda Boulevard. If you want to use your own transport, then you will have to pay the parking fee at the parking lot available outside the main gate.

    On Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, the Getty Centre remains open from 10 am to 6 pm. On Friday and Saturday, the museum remains open until 9 pm. Therefore, plan your visit accordingly.

    At the Getty Centre, you will find a decent collection of paintings, drawings, manuscripts, and decorative arts along with photographs of the Getty Center, its structure and gardens. Therefore, you can visit the sections of your choice by following the signs available to guide you in the museum.

    You should also visit the shop in the museum, where you can buy award-winning Getty publications, along with many other books and DVDs. In addition to that, you will also find a good collection of posters and cards displaying the items present in the museum. Therefore, if you like anything in the museum, you can take a poster of it with you from the shop.

    If you are planning to visit the Getty Villa, then you can take Metro Bus 534, which will stop at the Coastline Drive and Pacific Coast Highway, near the main entrance. If you have your own conveyance, then you can park it near the entrance after paying a parking fee.

    You should request your ticket in advance, in order to get it on your desired date. The admission fee is free, and you can book it online at the museum’s official website.

    The Getty Villa remains open from Thursday to Monday, from 10 am to 5 pm each day. Therefore, plan your visit accordingly.

    If you are a fan of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquities, then you should have a close look at the architecture and gardens of the Villa. You will find Gods, Goddesses, Dionysus, Theatre and many other things of your interest.
