Brisbane is the capital of Queensland, one of the six states of Australia. There are a number of national and public holidays observed in the country which includes the New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Easter Week holidays, Anzac Day, Queen’s Birthday and Christmas. ‘Labour Day’ is the only holiday that is observed in Queensland and in no other state of the country.

Holidays in January
1st - New Year’s Day
The New Year’s Day in Australia is celebrated on the same day as the whole world. A national holiday is observed on January 1 all over the country. The date marks the beginning of the New Year in the Gregorian calendar and is celebrated with a day off.
26th - Australia Day
‘Australia Day’ is also known as the Foundation Day and the Anniversary Day, and is celebrated on the 26th of January. The day is a national holiday and is referred to as the day when the first fleet of 1044 persons arrived Sydney Cove in New South Wales in 1788. -

Easter Week
There are a number of religious national holidays that are observed in Australia in the Easter Week. First is the ‘Good Friday’ which is observed to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ. ‘Easter Saturday’ is also a holiday in which the Christians prepare for the Easter. ‘Easter Monday’ is also a holiday in most of Australia including Brisbane and is also known as the second day of the Bright Week.
The date may vary every year depending on the day Easter Week starts. -

25th - Anzac Day
Anzac Day is another national holiday and is observed in remembrance of the Australian and New Zealand troops that fought in World War I. The holiday is observed on April 25 every year and commemorates the army officers who served and lost their lives at Gallipoli. -

Queen’s Birthday
The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated on the second Monday of June in the rest of Australia whereas Queensland celebrates the day on the 1st Monday of October. Brisbane, being the capital of Queensland, also observes the holiday in October. -
