How to Cure Dry Itchy Skin on Dogs
If you keep pets at your home, it is your sole responsibility to take care of their hygiene and physical fitness. Dogs and cats normally wander throughout the house and even outside. Dogs are subjected to catch several skin diseases and allergies from the outside environment. This can lead to itchy and dry skin, excessive scratching, licking or biting in dogs. It is better to take your dog to a vet but if the problem is at its initial stages, you can easily cure it at home. Certain household items can be effectively used to cure the itching skin on your dog and provide quick relief to your canine.

The first thing you can do is to give a bath to your dog. Fill up your bath tub with cold water and slowly dip your dog into it. Soak him for at least 10 minutes and then use a sponge to gently rub his entire body. Care must be taken while putting your dog into cold water, as sudden change in temperature might let your dog restless and anxious. Put him in water slowly.

Oatmeal has tremendous abilities to rejuvenate skin and provide moisture to it. You can use an oatmeal shampoo to lather your dog. This will provide soothing effect to the itching, and inflamed skin of your pet. Massage the oatmeal shampoo into your dog’s coat until you make a rich lather. Reach out for the dog’s skin and let the shampoo on it for about 5 minutes. Rinse him completely afterwards and use a towel to dry him gently. Be careful not to rub your dog’s skin with the towel, as this can cause further irritation to his skin.

Epsom salt is one of the other ingredients which releases itches from your pet’s skin. Fill a tub with only 2 to 3 inches cool water and add 2 cups of Epsom salt to it. Dip your dog’s paws gently into the solution and let them soak for 10 minutes. Repeating this process twice a day will provide temporary relief to your dog’s itching paws.

Dryness in skin can be prevented or removed with proper moisturising. You can use a spray-on oil-based skin moisturiser onto your dog’s coat to reduce biting, scratching and licking. Apply a thin layer of oil on your dog’s coat and rub it gently so that it can reach his skin.
