How to Become a Tattoo Apprentice
Becoming a tattoo artist requires a lot of dedication, patience and practice. Often it is a full time commitment and requires you to get an apprenticeship in order to learn the art.
According to some experts this is perhaps the oldest form of body art existing today. It is believed that the ancient civilisations spreading from Asia to New Zealand practiced it and it was only later when this art reached Europe through explorers and then to other parts of the world.

Today, in the US, tattooing has become a norm with people no longer considering it a taboo. In North America, the tattoo business is considered quiet secure; so if you have the niche for body painting with a passion for drawing, then you should look for an apprenticeship.

It is recommended that you get a degree in arts before searching for an apprenticeship, as formal education in arts will give you a better perspective. The more you learn about drawing the more likely you are to bag an apprenticeship. The educational background will have a remarkable impact on your resume.

Like a surgeon, you need to have steady hands in this profession. If your instructor feels that your hands shake, he might cancel your apprenticeship. Remember steady hands prevent you from scratching a client. Someone who is unable to colour inside the lines will face problems in keeping his/her apprenticeship.

No matter how good you may think you are, the training which you will get during your apprenticeship will tune your raw talent and turn you into a professional tattooist. Do not think that the apprenticeship is a waste of time because during your first year you will not be allowed to touch the clients, and instead will have to watch and learn from the pros. During the apprenticeship taking care of the shop may be your responsibility.

5
Try to mimic the moves of other tattooists working in your shop, as the more you practice, the better you will become.

It is only after completing your training period that you will be able to open your own shop, with a professional license to practice.
