How to Take Care of an Eyebrow Piercing
Eyebrow piercings are difficult to handle and maintain, particularly when they are new, as there are countless opportunities for exposure to infection. In addition to the dangers posed by your own hair and sweat, the piercing could also be rubbed against your pillow as you sleep, or get caught in your clothes as you change. Cleanliness is the key to taking care of your eyebrow piercing and preventing infections. Before you touch the piercing, make sure your hands have been thoroughly disinfected – washing them with antibacterial soap should do the trick. Similarly, you will need to wash your face a couple of times a day, and keep the piercing itself clean – remove any crusting that might form, and clean it at least twice a day. It is also essential to make sure that anything that will be touching the piercing is clean – this includes your bed sheets, pillowcase, and covers.

Make sure the piercing remains completely undisturbed. Do not fiddle with it, or allow other people to touch it. Do not sleep on it, as this will put unnecessary pressure on it, and put it in danger of getting lint and loose threads caught in it.

When cleaning the piercing, follow a regular routine and method. Start the cleaning process in the shower, by pouring some saline solution onto a cotton swab, and holding it over the piercing for around 2 to 3 minutes. This will soften and dissolve any crust that forms, and bring down any swelling that might occur.

Once you are out of the shower, rinse the piercing using some water and antibacterial soap. Wash the soap off thoroughly, and pat the area dry gently with a clean soft towel or piece of tissue. Then, use a cotton swab to remove any leftover crust and dab on some aftercare gel.

Taking care of an eyebrow piercing also means remaining vigilant in regards to the risk of infection. While cleaning, inspect the piercing for any signs of swelling, irritation, or redness. In order to allay an impending infection, hold a washcloth doused with cold water against the piercing, until it cools; then, clean the piercing with saline solution. Repeat this procedure daily until the swelling, redness, and irritation subsides. If it continues to grow worse, however, consult a doctor immediately.
