How to Remove an Eyebrow Piercing

Eyebrow piercings are far from permanent, and can be changed or removed completely. However, since the piercing is in a delicate area, where frequent irritation and infections occur, the removal of an eyebrow piercing requires careful handling. It is inadvisable to remove the piercing if the area is inflamed and infected, so make sure you observe it carefully, and consult with a physician before you go ahead with the removal.

Things Required:

– Eyebrow piercing
– Water
– Antibacterial soap
– Antibiotic ointment
– Latex gloves

Before you begin the delicate process of removing your eyebrow piercing, you will need to make sure your hands are absolutely clean – consider this a surgical procedure, as you will be opening up your skin and any carelessness on your part could lead to a nasty infection. Wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap, or consider wearing latex gloves during the removal.

Next, clean the area around the piercing gently, by washing it with antibacterial soap and water that is at room temperature. It is essential to ensure that the water is such that it feels comfortable on your bare skin – water that is too hot or too cold could have adverse side-effects. Once you have washed it, pat it dry softly with a clean towel or tissue.

Now, determine how you will pull the piercing apart and remove it – this will depend on the type of jewellery you are wearing, and it is necessary to have a proper mirror with plenty of light, in which you can watch what you are doing. If you are wearing a hoop, this will typically have a ball located in the middle, which holds the hoop together, and if you are wearing barbell-type jewellery, this will usually need to be unscrewed from the top.

With one hand, hold the hoop or barbell in place, and with the other begin to slowly and gently unscrew the ball. Do not panic, or try to hurry the process – take your time, and if you feel pain or discomfort at anytime, slow down, or stop completely and take a break. Once you have twisted the ball off, slide out the hoop or barbell slowly. Once again, use a gentle hand, and feel free to pause if it gets too painful at any point.

Once the jewellery is out, place it in a container filled with a cleaning solution. If you are done with having a pierced eyebrow, then proceed to rub some healing antibiotic ointment onto the pierced area, to start the healing process and get it to start closing. However, if you want to insert a new piece of jewellery, then wash the area once again with water and antibacterial soap, dry it gently, and slip in a sterilized, new barbell or hoop.
