Public & National Holidays in Malta
Malta is a European Union country that observes the most holidays in a calendar year. Holidays in Malta are established by the country’s law makers under the National Holidays and Other Public Holidays Act of the Laws of Malta.
Besides these 14 Public and National holidays, the people of Malta celebrate a number of special days like St Anthony the Abbot (January 13), Conversion of St. Paul (January 27), Candlemas (February 2), St. Valentine (February 14) etc. However, these feasts are not declared as public holidays and public and private businesses runs as usual across the country.

Holidays in January
1st - New Year's Day
Like all other parts of the world, the Maltese Island also celebrates the New Year’s Day on January 1 every year to welcome the new Solar calendar. The day is declared as a public holiday by the Maltese government and banks, schools and public offices remain closed. -

10th - Feast of St. Paul's Shipwreck
St. Paul’s Shipwreck is celebrated on February 10 every year to commemorate Apostle Paul, the most powerful early Christian missionary. -

19th - Feast of St. Joseph
This feast is celebrated annually on March 19. It is a public holiday under the Laws of Malta.
31st - Freedom Day
Freedom Day is observed on March 31 every year to celebrate the anniversary of the withdrawal of British army and navy from the Island (in 1979). Freedom Day is a national holiday under the National Holidays and Other Public Holidays Act of the Laws of Malta. -

Friday preceding Easter Sunday - Good Friday
The Christian community of Malta observes Good Friday on the Friday proceeding the Easter Sunday to honour the crucifixion of Jesus Christ on Calvary. Since it is linked with Easter, Good Friday is a movable feast that is observed on any Friday between March 22 to April 25. -

1st - Workers' Day
Like all other countries in the world, the Maltese Island also observes Worker’s/ Labour’s Day on May 1 every year, to praise achievements of the labour movement. -

Like all other Roman Catholic states, the Maltese Island also observes the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady on August 15. -

8th - Victory Day
Victory Day or the Feast of Our Lady of Victories is celebrated on September 8 every year to commemorate the victory of the Great Siege against the Turks by the Knights of St. John in 1565. Victory Day makes the third of the total five national holidays in Malta.
21st - Independence Day
September 21 is celebrated as the Independence Day in Malta and is also a national holiday. -

Republic Day is the last national holiday observed across the Maltese Island, on December 13 every year.
25th Christmas Day
