Health conscious people tend to check chemicals in what they eat and even in the products they use for beauty care. Some of these chemicals not only have harmful effect on the body but also damages the environment. Sodium lauryl sulfate is the foaming ingredient found in almost all shampoos. It leads to thinning of your hair. Sulfate also weakens the immune system and damages the hair cells. Adding further to their side effects, liver can absorb these sulfates eventually affecting effecting hormone estrogen of the body. However, nowadays manufacturers are making sulphate-free and environmental friendly shampoos.

    Whenever you try to choose a shampoo, you should read the labels written on the back. You need to check out for Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Ammonium Laureth Sulfate. In almost every shampoo, at least one of these three ingredients will be included for foaming purposes. They can easily be seen in the labels i.e. they are most commonly written after water or the second ingredient of the shampoo. However, read all items in the label to make sure these surfactants are not present.

    Organic or natural products

    You need to check shampoos that have natural or organic ingredients.  Most organic shampoos contain natural ingredients and have rare chances of containing sulfates. Remember to check the labels of organic shampoos in order to check out for sulfates.

    In case you cannot find sulfate-free shampoos from your local drugstores then you can always pay a visit to organic food stores or health stores such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. These stores usually make their own sulfate-free shampoos along with containing branded sulfate-free shampoos.

    Take advice from your local hair salon or hairdresser for which sulfate-free shampoos are suitable for your hair. Many salons use sulfate products but there are few lines such as Pureology that are sulfate-free. These hairdressers will recommend you shampoos which are not only sulfate-free but are PH balanced according to the texture of your hair.
