How to Treat Sweaty Hands and Feet

Sweating is a natural phenomenon which not only regulates your body temperature but also plays a key role in excreting waste material from the body. Nevertheless, sweaty palms and feet are not only uncomfortable, but also unsightly. Fortunately however, there are a number of over the counter antiperspirants and a few homemade remedies you can use to control excessive sweating.

Things Required:

– Tea bags
– Epsom salt
– Alum powder
– Boric acid
– Water

Instructions

  • 1

    Black tea

Take five regular black tea bags and add them to one quart of boiling water. Pour the mixture into a tub and allow it to cool completely. Once the mixture cools down to the room temperature, soak your hands or feet in it for half an hour. This treatment will clog your pores, preventing sweating, but it is a temporary solution that hardly lasts for 30 minutes.

    Epsom salt

Epsom salt has been successfully used to treat various types of hyperhidrosis and is believed to cure excessive sweating in palms and feet as well. Add three to four tablespoons of Epsom salt in hot water (not boiling). Thoroughly mix the solution. Once your solution is ready, soak your hands and feet in it every night for almost half an hour. It is pertinent to mention here that it is not exactly clear how effective Epsom salt treats excessive sweating. If you are a heavy sweater, try using either alum powder or boric acid.

    Alum powder

Alum powder or potash alum  is a common household item that can easily be found in the spice corner of any grocery store. It has the ability to clog pores and stop excessive sweating. Sprinkle a fair amount of alum powder in your socks before you put them on. Also dust a light coating of the powder on your palms and enjoy sweat free palms and feet for most of the day. If you sweat heavily, store the powder in an airtight jar and carry it with you to the work place and reapply in the afternoon.

    Boric acid

Take 1-2 oz of boric acid and sprinkle it into cotton socks. Wear the socks and leave them on for two to three days. After removing the socks, wash your feet thoroughly with soap and hot water. Soak your feet in one of the above mentioned solutions and pat dry with a clean  towel. Use the same treatment for sweaty palms, replacing socks with white cotton gloves.
