How to Apply Castor Oil to Eyelashes
While castor oil is touted as a magical formula with remarkable nourishing properties, the claims that it helps thicken eyelashes are not backed by any concrete scientific evidence or research. However since castor oil is non-toxic and believed to have medicinal and therapeutic qualities, applying it to thinning eyelashes in an attempt to make them thicker cannot hurt.
Things Required:
– Castor oil
– Mascara wand
– Baby shampoo
– Cotton swab
– Eye makeup remover
– Facial wash

Start by buying all-natural castor oil – the varieties available at grocery stores are generally factory manufactured, so try buying a bottle from a health food store. Look for the words “cold-pressed” or “cold-processed” on the label – that way you will know the oil is all-natural and pure, with no artificial additives.

Now that you have the castor oil, you will need a tool which will aid you in applying it to your eyelashes. For this purpose, you can either invest in a couple of disposable mascara wands, or use the wand from an old, dried-out tube of mascara. If you plan on using the latter, you will need to lather it up with some mild baby shampoo and water, in order to clean it completely and rid it of all traces of prior makeup. Do not use soaps or commercial detergents for cleaning the brush, and after you have washed and rinsed it thoroughly, allow it to air dry.

Before you begin applying the castor oil, wash your face and use an eye makeup remover to get rid of any old makeup on the eyes and eyelashes – the best time for applying castor oil to lashes is just before you go to bed. Then, dip the mascara wand into the castor oil, and tap it at the edge of the container a few times, in order to get rid of any excess oil.

Now proceed to apply the castor oil on your eyelashes, in the same way you would put on mascara. Position the wand at the roots of your lashes, and then sweep the brush upwards, gliding it through the lashes. Swipe a thin layer of oil onto all your lashes on both eyes, and wipe away any excess oil with a cotton swab.

Once the oil has been applied, proceed to go to sleep and leave the oil on overnight. In the morning, wash it off with a mild facial wash, making sure you remove all the oil – if any residue remains, it will cause your makeup to bleed. Pat your face dry, and apply your regular makeup.
