Karate is a martial art which was developed in Japan at the Ryukyu Islands, now known as Okinawa. It is a striking art which involves knee strikes, kicking, punching, elbow strikes and some open hand manoeuvres e.g. palm-heel strikes, spear-hands and knife-hand.
