How to Transfer Plants from Pots to the Ground
Seeds of almost all plants are sowed into pots and once they grow larger, especially at roots, they are required to be transferred either into larger pots or into the ground. Process of the transfer requires special care, as any carelessness can damage the plant. From watering the plant before taking it out from the pot to some other techniques, there are some ways to help completion of the transfer safely. You will also have to monitor the transferred plant for a period of time to check its growth.

Determination of Time
First step in the transfer of a plant from pot to the ground is to decide when is the right time to do it. Generally, the recommended time is when the plant is root-bound. As soon as it starts growing at roots, it is time for you to think to transfer the plant either to another and larger pot or into the ground. Leaving a root-bound plant in a smaller plant causes stress to the plant and its growth can be affected. For example, it can slow down its growth because of the lack of space or room for growth of its roots. -

Locate Position in Your Garden
You should also locate or mark a place in your garden where you want to transfer the plant. In order to make the space available clear the area and dig a hole in the ground. The hole should be deeper than the pot and its base should be wider as well. Although you can decide about the level of depth for your new plant, a generally recommended depth of the hole is about six to eight inches larger than the pot. -

Removal of Plant from Pot
The next step is actual transfer of the plant. Try to remove the plant safely. For this it is better if you water the plant but do not water deep as it will remove the mud from plants' roots and it can be weakened. Leave the original mud of the pot with the plant while transferring it into the hole. -

Avoid Exposure to Harsh Weather
Avoid exposure of the transplanted plant to sun and other harsh weather conditions, as it can hurt the plant and its growth can get affected to an extent. Also, monitor the plant on a regular basis and take care of it if you see the signs that the growth process into the ground has been affected.
