How to Wash a Shower Curtain

Soap scum and mildew can build up on shower curtains if not properly cleaned after bathing. Shower curtains are also subject to soap, water and humidity besides the household dirt from daily handling. You are not required to clean the shower curtains daily but when they get dirty, you should remove and wash them out. However, you can spot clean on daily or weekly basis in order to keep them clean.

Things Required:

– Chlorine bleach
– Soft scrub brush
– Watering can (with a spout or sprinkler head)
– White vinegar
– Detergent
– Baking soda

    Locate mould or mildew

    First of all you need to seek the spot which needs to be clean. Look out for mould or mildew which you want to clean. Remember that you do not need to remove the shower curtain if using this method.

    Apply chlorine solution

    Make a solution of water and chlorine bleach. You need to add one part chlorine bleach into nine parts of water. Then apply it on mould or mildew spots at the shower curtains. Take a soft brush and dip it in the chlorine solution in order to apply it.

    Rinse with water

    Next you need to remove the bleach solution with water. You should pour water on the inside of the curtain with help of a watering can with a spout.

    Spray vinegar

    Then you need to spray vinegar in order to remove hard water spots. You should leave vinegar for almost 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse with water.

    Wash in bathtub

    In order to wash the shower curtain in a bathtub, you need to fill it halfway with water. Then add one cup of bleach and then remove the shower curtains from the hooks. Place it in the bleach solution for almost half hour. After half hour, drain the bleach solution and fill the tub with fresh water. Rinse the curtains with help of your hands. In the end you need to drain the water and swish away the excess water from curtains. Place the curtains back on its place and allow dripping dry. You need to turn on the exhaust fans when drip drying the curtains. This will remove excess humidity.
