Beach-themed cupcakes can be a great dessert option for a beach party – the more personalised and creative they are, the more they are bound to impress. There are no hard and fast rules for how you can get cupcakes to look more beach appropriate – be as creative as you can, and use a couple of ideas to jump-start your imagination.
Ingredients
  • Yellow cake mix
  • Blue cupcake papers
  • White frosting
  • Yellow food colouring
  • Colourful drink umbrellas
  • Fruit roll ups
  • Gummy Bears
Instructions
  1. Get two cupcake tins, and line them up with bright-blue cupcake papers. These will serve as the “ocean”. Use these as the base, and whip up a batch of cupcakes made of yellow cake mix.
  2. Follow the directions on the back of the cake mix packet, and once the cupcakes are done, set them out on a wire rack, and allow them to cool completely.
  3. While the cupcakes are cooling, scoop out the amount of frosting you will need into a bowl, and squeeze a drop or two at most of yellow food colouring into this.
  4. Stir it with a spoon until the frosting is smooth and creamy, and turns a light beige colour – this will be your “sand”.
  5. Next, roll out the fruit roll ups, and use a pair of clean kitchen scissors to cut tiny 1-inch squares out of the fruit roll ups. Use different colours, so you have lots of bright varieties.
  6. Now, it is time to begin assembling your beach-themed cupcakes.
  7. First, frost each cupcake with the beige frosting. Then, place a small fruit roll up square on each cupcake, to form a beach mat. On top of each beach mat, place a gummy bear to serve as a beach-going sunbather.
  8. You can hold the gummy bear in place by putting a tiny rolled up piece of fruit roll ups behind the bear to steady him.
  9. Finally, as a finishing touch, stick a brightly-coloured cocktail umbrella into each cupcake, so that it covers the sunbathing bear.
  10. Push the umbrella in at a slight angle, to give the cupcakes a jaunty, artistic look. Line them up on a brightly coloured tray (anything from hot pink to lime green will work), and serve as a fun treat at the beach, or at a beach-themed party.
