How to Heal a Pulled Muscle

Our muscles are made of tissues and when the fibre in these tissues are pulled more than the normal sustainable limit, they jerk back just like fibres which results in a pulled muscle. How often a person gets pulled muscle depends upon the overall health and fitness of that person. It is possible that a heavy object, when pulled slowly does not cause a muscle cramp, while the same thing when lifted suddenly can cause a great muscle sprain. You get your muscle pulled when lifting with poor body posture. Also, you may get a pulled muscle when you perform a sudden jerk. What happens is that the tissues in our muscles are shock resistant only to some extent and when it reaches its limit, the muscles get sprained.

In addition to this, there are some other causes of pulled muscle which includes twisting and overexerting.

    Take complete rest for two to three days which means no weight lifting until you get your pulled muscle back to normal. Make sure that you do not over rest your pulled muscle.

    Give the affected muscle normal movement. In certain cases freezing the pulled muscle in a single position lowers down the flow of blood which in turn, hurts even more.

    Warm your muscles with the help of a heating pad so that the pulled muscle’s threads can come back into place. Make sure that you have wrapped yourself in a blanket so that the heating pad does not lose its heat.

    Another great remedy to treat a pulled muscle is to take hot bath. The steam during a hot bath will significantly help you reduce the pain and at times and get rid of the pain completely! In addition to this, you can also add Epsom salt in the hot bath that will also help you cure the problem in minutes.

    Take a gentle amount of hot almond oil and massage it into the skin of the affected area. This will soften up the skin to let you massage properly. Massage in downward strokes.  Make sure that you are not straining your pulled muscle during the massage.

    Consult with your doctor to prescribe you an anti-inflammatory medicine. He will also guide you about the number of times it must be taken in a day.

    You may also rub some muscle pain relieving creams that are commercially available in any medical store. So get one and apply on the affected area and follow the instructions that come along with the cream.
