How to Prepare for Electrolysis Treatment

In terms of beauty treatments, Electrolysis is the process of permanently removing unwanted hair from the face and other parts of the body. In this treatment, an electric current is applied into each hair follicle to destroy the root. Electrolysis treatment requires multiple sessions and you need to prepare your body before every session to ensure you get the desired results without unnecessary pain and irritation. This process has the best overall results as compared to other hair removing procedures, including laser treatment. However, bear in mind it is an expensive procedure and an average 30 minutes session costs about US$45.

Instructions

  • 1

    Stop waxing, tweezing and plucking

As soon as you decide to undergo an electrolysis treatment, stop removing hair by plucking, tweezing or waxing. Length of the hair in the area to be treated is the most important thing for best results. Ideally there should be two to four millimetre of hair visible; too short a hair will be hard to grip and it will also be difficult to determine the direction of the growth. Waxed and tweezed hair take several weeks to grow again, and this will only extend the duration of treatment.

    Shaving or cutting are okay

Both shaving and cutting with scissor do not affect hair growth, so you can continue with either of these methods to keep your hair length under control.

  • 3

    Better not to bleach hair

Bleaching hair does not affect the electrolysis treatment but it is better to avoid bleaching for two days before treatment. Bleaching at times makes your skin over-sensitive which may cause unnecessary pain or irritation.

  • 4

Don't shave 3 or 4 days before treatment

You need to be more vigilant in the last 3, 4 days prior to treatment. It is better to stop shaving and cutting to make sure your hair are not too short for the treatment.

    Painkillers

You can wear makeup even on the day of appointment, but remember it will be removed by your doctor before starting the treatment. You can also take a mild painkiller like ibuprofen or paracetamol an hour before your appointment.
