How to Replace the Starter in a Car
Contrary to popular belief, car battery is not always the problem behind your car’s inability to start. Often when your car fails to start in the morning and as a result, you try boosting it up without much success. If this is the case with your car, you need to think beyond the obvious and maybe it’s the problem with the starter of your car. The charge sent from the battery of your car to the starter allows the car to start and if the starter is not working fine, your car won’t start even with a brand new battery.

In case your car’s starter has worn out or is completely dead, you can either choose to buy a new starter or you can go for a rebuilt starter, which can also do the job for you. And you don’t even need to spend a huge amount of time at a workshop in order to replace the starter because you can easily do that yourself without much trouble.

Before doing anything else, you need to turn off the ignition and remove the negative cable from the battery of your car.

After you have safely removed the negative cable, move on the positive one and carefully remove it as well from the starter. Positive cable is usually the larger one that runs to the battery.

Next you need to disconnect each and every bolt that holds the starter and you can use a ratchet for that purpose.

Check whether there are any other supporting brackets for the purpose of holding the starter in place. If there are any supporting brackets around, remove them as well before proceeding to the next step.

Use a starter to remove all the bolts and make sure that you do not use excessive force in order to remove a bolt which is very difficult to remove. Instead, you can use either lubricant or grease to loosen them.

Now you can easily remove the starter from your car. Carefully remove the starter and pick up the new starter so that you can attach it. Mount the new starter on the block and use bolts to attach it to its position.

Reconnect the battery cable to the starter before you have start tightening the bolts. After connecting the battery cable, you can tighten the bolts.

Once all the bolts are in place, you can now reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
